The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) have appointed BAM Construction to build the Deanery Church of England Academy. After receiving planning permission in July, signing this contract marks another significant move forwards in the project.
BAM has worked in consultation with DBAT and the ESFA to develop detailed designs within the budget of £26.5 million to produce a building which will be a landmark at the heart of the new community. Designed by AHR architects, BAM will fit out the school, except for the specialist ICT aspect, with Hydrock providing structural and services engineering.
Councillor Fionuala Foley, Swindon Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children's Services and School Attainment said, "The new secondary school will provide amazing facilities for pupils and is a significant investment in the new Wichelstowe development. I look forward to seeing the new school take shape and I'm pleased the Council has been able to contribute some funding to enhance what will be a state-of-the-art educational facility."
Work has already begun on the site and there is a formal turf-cutting ceremony planned for late September 2017.
