Somerfords’ Walter Powell School is a small village school in Wiltshire with approximately 50 children aged 2-11. Pupils are taught in three mixed age classes in the morning – Reception and Key Stage 1, Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6. In the afternoons the children are taught in two classes – Reception and Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. The school’s approach to mixed-age learning was commended in its latest Ofsted report, as all pupils receive an age-appropriate curriculum which has a positive effect on their learning. Somerfords’ Walter Powell also provides a stimulating environment, with a large sports field, trim trail, wildlife area and school allotment that the children enjoy. The school has been awarded “Good” by Ofsted and also by SIAMS, which reported that its values create a caring, nurturing environment in which children enjoy their learning. The school became part of the Diocese of Bristol Academies Trust in September 2015 and a year later it united with Seagry and Christian Malford to form a group of schools with a shared leadership team and Local Board. This partnership allows pupils, staff and parents to benefit from increased unique opportunities available across the three academies.
